A great way to get a baby fix, without having an actual baby is to be a Newborn Photographer. lol Although I am a Mum myself, my children are a bit older now, they don't seem to appreciate it when I wrap them into the 'womb' pose, or creep on them while they're sleeping oh-so peacefully to snap photos of them. Of course I say this kind of tongue in cheek, but I have to admit that I am always a little baby crazy on the days I have a Newbie in the studio. :-) I get all mushy and gushy and I am amazed at how tiny and perfect they are.... And if the very next day I have another newborn in studio, well - it starts all over again lol.

I was fortunate to photograph this beautiful family and their gorgeous new addition a few weeks back and I do believe I caved in and asked mum if I could kiss her babe. I just couldn't help it! It was heaven! All 6lbs of this little gentleman had my heart doing flip flops all throughout the session! He slept like a champ, and let me pose him just so and even gifted some smiles to us.

I like having babies into the studio around day 8 after birth. It's a nice age because it gives Mum's milk a chance to come in, get settled at home and heal, as well as become better acquainted with your new person. Of course each family is different, so I find it important to work with my families to determine when it would be most comfortable to come in. That being said, unfortunately we do have somewhat of a window to get in those photos of all the newness of babe.

I'd love to hear what you think of this precious little man's photos! And of course, if you are pregnant and expecting, please reach out! Let's chat and discuss your vision for your newborn photos.

Kitchener Cake Smash - "Smash & Splash!"

I'm pretty blessed to get to work with some wonderful families as they transition and grow while adding a new family member along the way. It's always a treat for me to photograph Newborn photos and then a year later celebrate a huge milestone with that same little person that was so wee and small not that long ago. I think I have it in the back of my mind that when they leave the studio from the Newborn session that somehow they'll stay tiny, but when they walk through the studio door as a toddler, it never fails - I'm always blown away by how much growth and change has taken place over the year!

Here is the perfect example! I photographed this little Miss when she was new to the world and in she came, all personality and smiles! She rocked her session in every way possible. I always like to start with a Portrait, followed by the Cake and wrap up with a good scrub in a bubble bath. Bubble baths never fail to please, and my little claw-foot tub is always requested by my clients.

Over the past few years, the infamous "Cake Smash" has almost become a right of passage for little people. The popularity has grown and trended and many variations have popped up along the way too, allowing for a whole new variation of creativity to come about. Instead of traditional cake, folks have requested doughnuts (a VERY popular alternative!). I've seen examples of 1st birthday sessions using all kinds of different foods that are the current favourite of the birthday Boy or Girl.

Here are some of my favourite photos from L's Unicorn-themed cake smash session. I hope you love it as much as I do!

If you have a little one celebrating a big milestone and are curious to know more about these super fun and adorable photo sessions, reach out today! I'd love to chat and brainstorm the perfect session for you, and of course, the studio is always stocked and ready to go for almost any ideas you might envision.
